Transforming
a house into a home with a Modern Contemporary Interior Design
A home is more than an address of correspondence- it's a
thriving space full of everlasting memories- a travelogue of a family's journey
through ups & downs of life. A house, whether inherited or newly purchased,
transforms into a home only by personalizing, of which, Interior Design is the
foremost step. Yet, many in India deny themselves of quality interior designing
options primarily due to unaffordability. If you too have been depriving
yourself of the chance to turn your house into a lovely home, or are looking
for a suitable interior designer, your search ends here.
Einterio provides affordable interior design solutions along with 3D designed-models enabling you to see your dream home in Virtual Reality (VR), long before it takes a real form. Mr. Kumar’s home in Wakad, Pune stands as testament to our promise.
With an area of 611 sq. ft. & a budget of 10-12 lakhs,
the process of designing Mr. Kumar’s dream home began by choosing the right
style. The Modern Contemporary Style, a fusion of Modern & Contemporary
styles of interior design, emerged as the best fit.
The Modern style, marked by its minimalistic simplicity,
began in the late 19th century as a reflection of trends in Modern
Art & evolved over the next century or so. Its prominent features include
its choice of neutral colours, use of cost-effective materials such as glass
& steel, and its preference of function over form evident in its avoidance
of unnecessary embellishments.
In contrast, the Contemporary style, reflecting present-day
trends in arts, is marked by fluidity, use of innovative eco-friendly
materials, and decorative biomimicry. Like its predecessor, the Contemporary
style is minimalist but allows purely decorative elements lacking function, and
its colour palette while neutral, closely resembles natural environments with
stony greys, woody browns, watery blues, &c. Also, while the modern style
favoured straight lines, contemporary designs tend to be lenient in the use of
curves to give your homes an organic look.
In choosing the fusion, we chose the best of both worlds. Here are a few tips to effectively transform your own house with the Modern Contemporary Design Style:
#Tip 1 The Entrance & Passageways should be bold
enough to attract but simple enough not to distract.
At Mr. Kumar’s house, 4 well-spaced white-framed vertical mirrors line the entrance foyer’s left wall & an Euro Pratik Decorative laminate beautifies its centre. In front of the wall lies a raised platform with a sideboard having a pleasant Buddha bust on top & a designer vase on either flank. A decorative lighting hanging from the ceiling giving a visual treat. Similar schemes may be used to decorate passageways in general.
#Tip 2 The Living Room is the highlight of your
home & its décor should strike a balance between form & function.
Mr. Kumar’s living room sports a luxurious interior of whites,
blacks, greys & browns. A greyish blue-green sofa-bed adorns a corner &
the dual-curtains on the window & door (leading to a gallery) allow easy
control over natural lighting. Volex Stone-textured laminate on the main wall
goes well with the mounted TV which allows for comfortable viewing from the
sofa. A row of flat-topped cabinets stands below the TV. To the left of these
cabinets, lies a decorative side-table breathing some artistic life into the
scene. A coffee table with a dark straight-grained wooden look at the centre of
the room, along with a circular white & grey chequered ottoman, completes
functional furnishings.
#Tip 3 Make the Kitchen fully-furnished &
modular.
As one of the most active places in a household, the kitchen
must have all necessary appliances such as refrigerator, stove, etc.; and
should also have a sink. Modular kitchen furniture is thus the most reliable
choice for maximizing utility while retaining the beauty of a kitchen.
You can see a fine example of a modern full-utility modular
kitchen above (or below depending on site layout) modelled by us for Mr.
Kumar. The use of profile-glass doors to (display designer crockery) &
use of grey-black colour scheme enlivens the kitchen space with a touch of
grandeur.
#Tip 4 An ambient Dining Area is the key to a good
appetite.
The dining area must be well-lit, well-furnished &
well-ventilated. Chairs, ottomans, or stools are commonly placed alongside
the dining table. In most households today, just like Mr. Kumar’s residence,
the dining area is a section of the living room & maintains thematic
continuity with it. The well-furnished dining area at Mr. Kumar’s home has an
ambience favourable to eating. Along the sidewall, is a sideboard atop which is
the household shrine, as if reminding the residents to be grateful for every
meal!
#Tip 5 The Bedroom(s) must be cozy &
comforting.
Ensure that the room is sufficiently dark at night by
using double-channel or black-out curtains. Also, choose the right (preferably
light) colours. Decorations such as modern (abstract) or contemporary paintings
& artistic wall-clocks can be hung on the walls. Other than the bed,
usual furniture includes side-tables, large wardrobes and a dressing table with
an ottoman or a cushioned chair/stool to sit upon. Bed-lamps, photo-frames,
etc., maybe kept atop the side-table.
